              Employee Free Choice Act

            By: James Parks   Copyright  AFL-CIO.org

On Labor Day the worker's advocacy group American Rights at Work

launched a national TV ad campaign to inform the public about the critical

issues facing America's struggling middle class.   The ads build on the broad

public support of the Employee Free Choice Act,  which would level the

playing field and allow workers to freely decide how to choose unions so

they can bargain for a better life.  The ads are part of a huge, new

coordinated effort among worker's rights advocates, progressives and the

the union movement to make passage of the legislation , a major issue in the

         2008 election.

                           COPE

                                                                 Committee on

                  Political Education

Our goal, as a group of volunteer members of Local 761, is to research

the voting records of candidates for political office.  We separate the

candidates' slick commercials from what they are really doing for working

class families or against working class families.

John McCain wants you to think he is not a George Bush clone. McCain

commercials depict him as a "Maverick",  a person who goes out on their own.

It is simply not true !

The Congressional Quarterly reported that McCain voted with George

Bush's policies 95 percent of the time last year, the most of any senator.

Is this a Maverick Independent thinker ?

Most recently McCain attempted to steer a 35 billion dollar Air Force

contract away from the Washington state-based Boeing to AirBus, a European

aircraft company.....a deal that would have cost more than 44,000 new and

existing jobs. The decision to award AirBus the contract, was reversed by the

Government Accountability Office in June.  (Source: IBEW Journal, Summer

         2008).

McCain voted for Bush's  Social Security Privatization Plan and says the

only solution to fixing Social Security, is through private accounts, telling

The Wall Street Journal in April," As part of Social Security reform, I believe

that private savings accounts are part of it...along the lines that President Bush

proposed." ( Source : AFL-CIO )  McCain also voted to raise the eligibility

age for Medicare and against a measure to provide temporary health insurance

assistance to retirees of Bankrupt steel companies.

John McCain has a record of not being good for Working families. McCain

is a threat to the medical care of our families or the care they may need in the

future. McCain will be for sending our jobs to other countries. Our families

depend on that paycheck. McCain has a record that shows he will support

allowing companies to use our pensions for risky investing and privatization

         of our Social Security.

Based on the performance and voting record, IUE/CWA recommends to our

members a " NO " vote when considering John McCain....

             Why was Granny intimidated

                       by the Big Guy ?

( As illustrated in a recent Anti-Union television commercial )

We think it is because they don't want to show the face of the"Anti Union"

Fat Cats  like Wal-Mart and Mitch McConnell. We tried to find all the money

contributors, but they won't divulge the secret.... They are just too sneaky and

          ashamed.

Anti Union Commercials are meant to trick the viewer. We usually call

this tactic " A wolf in sheep's clothing ".   Dishonesty about the intentions of

the advertisement, is really what the commercials are about, by trying to

trick you into thinking a group of Union members made the commercial ,

That is a Lie !  What a Dirty Trick !  The dirty tricks are paid for, in part, by

companies like Wal-Mart and the Associated Builders & Contractors, all low

wage companies, and Mitch McConnell's friends and supporters.

Let's be straight about what is being said here..........IUE-CWA Local 761

supports the FREE CHOICE ACT and fully supports Bruce Lunsford,

candidate for the United States Senate, and in his effort to help us, the working

          people.

If anti-union wealthy organizations are willing to spend millions to trick

you, just think what it must be worth to you to have the right to choose a

          Union.

More than half of the people who don't have a union, say," They would

join one tomorrow if given the chance. After all, people who belong to Unions

earn 30% more than people without unions, and are much more likely to have

HealthCare & Pensions.  We need to help those who want to be union, by

supporting Bruce Lunsford and the Employee Free Choice Act......

Mitch McConnell .....( SHAME ON YOU ) . Retired Senator Wendell Ford

Our most popular United States Senator ever, once said," " When you run

against Mitch McConnell, everyone will know who you are, because Mitch

will  FRAME YOU  before you ever have a chance to speak. "  Mitch and the

anti-union bosses want you to think badly of Bruce Lunsford for helping you

          and others get better wages.

BRUCE LUNSFORD is a Pro-labor candidate, running against Mitch

McConnell, and Mitch is running scared.  Bruce Lunsford will make a good

choice for us, the working people.   That is why voting Bruce Lunsford for

United States Senator , is important.   DITCH  MITCH in November....

                                                  Do  It  For  Granny  !!

Employee Free Choice Act

* Make It the Law *

IUE-CWA is spearheading the challenge to have it's locals pledge to

gather cards from 15% of it's members including hopefully, many with

photos to demonstrate to congress that Union members are behind the

             Employee Free Choice Act....

                                                       Steven A. Wimsatt

( Member in Good Standing )

The following was an "unprepared" speech to the Membership

on the  Employee Free Choice Act , by Mr. Wimsatt at the

                                      August Regular Membership meeting.

                                               Employee Free Choice Act

" This is the Most Important Legislation to come down to Middle

Class America since the Depression ".   Being a bit of a Historian,

the Middle Class became of age with the Wagner Act around Franklin

Delano Roosevelt's time.  This is the most important legislation that

has come about since then.  The Unions make up 8% of the workforce

in America today, down from a one time high of  35%.    If we get

four more years of a Republican Administration that is Anti-Union,

it will no longer be 8%,  it will be done !

These  guys came in with a mission to destroy Labor Unions and

they have done a good job.  With what you see on television,  ( the

Anti-Union commercials ), out of everything, there's a good thing,

and what I think about this is,  It's the "Most Exposure" Unions have

had in years.  It's an opportunity, because people are saying, " What's

this about ?  Are you Union people crazy ? This being your chance to

say," This is what it's about ".   Tell your friends to tell their families.

There is only one way this is going to happen, One person at a time,

the person you are talking to.  I think when they know the truth,

             they'll be sick.....

I was at the Nelson County, Kentucky Democratic Committee

meeting about 2 weeks ago.  I brought up a prior Mitch McConnell

visit at a COPE Committee Meeting, which I wasn't in the room

when somebody said something about him driving a foreign car.

McConnell said," I don't care what you think !    They said,"

You don't care about our vote ?    He said," Your people don't vote !

             " I don't care " .  He left saying , " People who make less than

             $50,000 a year don't vote !     I was appalled, They were appalled !

I'm telling you it's , "One Person at a Time".  It's not insufficient

that each one of you tell your Brother, your Sister, your Cousin,

             your friends...IT'S IMPORTANT !   THAT'S HOW YOU'LL WIN !
